Byron City Government
The Byron Area Council is comprised of eight (8) elected Aldermen from four wards, and the Mayor who is elected at large. The City Clerk and Treasurer are also elected positions. The Chief of Police and Public Works Director are appointed by the Mayor with the approval of the City Council.
Elected officials serve four-year terms, with the Aldermen serving staggered terms. Municipal elections are held in April of odd-numbered years.
Generally, matters to be considered are first referred to the appropriate committee, which will meet and discuss the matter and make a recommendation to the Council. Notices of committee meetings are posted at City Hall, along with an agenda for that meeting. Agendas for regularly scheduled City Council meetings are also posted at City Hall.
You may visit the City's website at www.cityofbyron.com for up-to-date information regarding all City meetings. Agendas, Meeting Cancellation Notices, Public Hearing Notices, minutes, and various around-the-city happenings are posted on the website.
All City Council and Committee meetings are open to the public, and citizens are encouraged to attend. Each City Council meeting has a public comment section where citizens may address the Mayor and Council about topics of interest or concern.
